I'd forgotten that tomorrow is Columbus Day. It's also Indigenous People's Day. The Post Office and a bunch of federal offices will be closed.

Second holiday he has dictated, that and Juneteenth. I just noted that Juneteenth falls on a Sunday next year. Maybe Monday off.

The easy way for the Salish, Nez Perce, and other western tribes to get to the plains abounding with bison was to follow the Clark Fork of the Columbia. That's easy going until you get to modern day Butte and go over Pipestone Pass.
Easy except for the Blackfeet, that is.

That's looking toward East Missoula. The streak of light at the base of the mountain on the left is I-90. Between it and the river is the Montana RailLink track with a coal train. The white path to the right is the Milwaukee right of way which is a hiking trail now.
Great place for an ambush.
There was an article in Playboy about 45 years ago from Jean Sheppard (or one of those guys) about the ETs. He said when the extra terrestrials show up we should kill them and eat them. Then they will just go away like the Spanish when they ran into the Amazon cannibals. When high tech meets low tech, low tech always loses. High tech occupies and sucks out their resources. It is never good for low tech. When ET shows up. Kill them and eat them.
