OT. Football Announcers

Reminds me of meeting Howard Cosell many years ago getting ready for the game with Frank Gifford and Alex Karras. They were all very friendly nice polite guys. I was at a conference with my family in Miami where they were staying and saw them over several days.

Yeah, I ran into that crew back then a time or two as well...as you say, were remarkably accessible.

Didn't make Howie any better an announcer, though....he still was more than could stand for more than about 5 minute stretch.

Where's Harry Caray when you need him? What I always ask at 7th-inning stretch at local summer team games--not very many "get it" any more, though, sadly.

There was nobody ever touch Jack Buck, though.

Gifford sounded like he had forever plus a day to say anything. Remember Cosell announcing John Lennon's death?

As a major hockey fan, when my team played on national TV, I loathed the national NBC commentators for their lack of real knowledge of the game. When teams play a national televised game, the local station can't air it and thus, we can't listen to the local commentators. I made it a habit to turn down the volume and listen to the local radio station who aired it.
