OT. Cell Phones

How much of a nuisance is it, really? On my phone it's a swipe down to reveal some commonly used settings, then a single tap on the WiFi icon. I suppose it takes no more than two seconds.

I don't know what you did and apparently neither do you, but you could have disabled Auto Reconnect for that SSID, meaning it would only connect when you manually ask it to, or maybe you selected the 'Forget this network' option for that SSID.

Yesh, exactly.

2 seconds, 3 seconds, whatever, I'll never get them back.

And every time I leave the house. :-(

OTOH, today at physical therapy, when they left me alone for 20 minutes with the TENS machine, it connected automatically. Wouldn't have done that if I'd turned off wifi.

You're right, probably one of those. I might be able to tell something by looking at the phone, but it's off now.

I don't wear a watch at home, but on foot none of those things are nearby. the car has a clock but it's one of those 3 gauges I can't see during the day, and if I'm attached the phoen to the dash, it has a clock, but the time is in tiny print in the upper corner of the map. I can't get close enough to see it while driving and it's hard to even when stopped.

I think my first watch was a Micky Mouse** watch, but I"m not sure. I know we had it at home after it stopped working but I can't rmemember if I had used it.

**He's my cousin.

Mine is like that but bulky and I prefer to wear something lighter. Also have to switch time zones when time changes.

My company supplied me with one also. It was my second cell phone. First one was a non-portable Motorola in my work van.

First time I saw a hand held one all I thought was: You are in a grocery store, why is it so important to talk to someone now?

I still have those thoughts when the moron in question is standing in the middle of the aisle completely oblivious to the world at hand.

My dentist has signs in the treatment rooms asking people to shut cell phones off.

Yep. we are beyond the point described in science fiction years ago.

I use my phone to read the news. I'm on the doctor's wi-fi. As soon as the door opens, I hit the button for airplane mode. Not off, but will not ring, beep, or other distractions.

I occasionally phone home from the grocery store to ask my husband if we need some item. We usually put together a good shopping list, but once in a while I'm uncertain whether we considered everything we might need. The call is brief, however.

Lately I've been using my phone to read an e-book in various waiting rooms.

Last couple of years because of Covid, waiting rooms have become devoid of magazines to read while waiting and everybody is reading on their phone. I find every place I go has wifi which I can log into and not use any of my data. I also do no business on my phone as it could be risky on others wifi.

You shouldn't have to manually correct for the standard vs. daylight saving change; the time signals transmitted both in the US and overseas contain that info. My watch has a setting that either enables or disables that specific feature. Perhaps your watch is using the manual vs. the automatic option. The only time I ever would have to change the hour setting is if/when I change time zone. Same holds true for a desktop clock I have that also receives the time signal from WWV in FT Collins CO. I've never had to reset it when we need to set manual clocks ahead or back one hour every six months.

It can be hard to read a phone's display when the sun is out.

I noticed that you did not use any foul language Mr. Peeler.

I would probably not want to know what LMAO means. :-)

Most of us have him in the kill file. He is the most prolific and useless poster on the group.

I hope you said that in jest. Unless, of course, this is your first week on the internet. ROFLMAO

I will have to check the setting on the watch and may have overlooked something. I do not wear it and just keep it under a light near my desk to keep it charged.

Wall clock I have refuses to be set to correct time but is accurate to the minute and have 4 US time zones. I manually reset it and it reverts to hour behind.

I read ny niece's college thesis on the airplane going to a wedding we were both going to. (Should have read it earlier, but had to do so before I saw her. At least I remembered to copy it to the phone.) It was easy to see, to read, though I might have had to install a special reader. .

For serious reading, I use a tablet; the phone is just a little too small. I'm constantly turning the "page" because I'm a fast reader. But the phone fits in my pocket, so it's a little more convenient when I'm not at home.

Prompted me to look at watch and clock. Turns out clock has a reset poking a paperclip into unmarked hole that corrected time. The watch is still a work in progress.
