Newhouse squeay floor boards

Help?

Just moved into my "new to me" house.

The house is @ 8 years old.

The bedroom floor is very squeaky.

Is this fixable?

The ceiling downstairs looks perfect, so the joists are probaly ok.

Any advise welome

Thanks

Carpeted floor? There is a special tool and screw just for that. You drive the screw into the floor right through the carpet using the guide then break off the top portion. Go to the web page for Ask This Old House and they have a video showing how to do it.

I'm going to guess there is carpet in the bedroom verses hardwood floors.

Based on that here is what we've done in the past.

Walk around to find just where the squeaks are.

Once found you have a couple of choices.

You can take a finish nail (like a #8p) and drive it right through the carpet into the plywood and into the joist.

You can also (and this seems to work a bit better) use a trim screw (say 2 1/4 inch) and do the same thing.

Be careful however with the screws they can sometimes grab and unravel the carpet.

Hope this helps.
