How long should it take to charge a lawnmower battery @ 40 amps? And what happens to a battery when it is being charged?? Thanx all

First off , at 40A you'll fry that battery , not charge it . Second , it depends on the starting state of charge , the A/H capacity of the battery , and how many amps you're charging at . What happens is that the electricity makes chemical changes to the lead plates and electrolyte . Those changes are undone as you draw current from the battery .

I'd say charge it a two to five amps. And it should take a few hours to charge, if it's going from mostly empty. The charge rate goes down as it charges.
