Hi,

Really depends on the start relay and over load used on your compressor, and the make/model/style of your refrigerator....checking it for continuity with an ohm meter can help check/test them out. Does the compressor start? Does the compressor shut off on the overload/safety? An amp meter is often used to see if the compressor is drawing the correct amount of current/power or too much or too little. Many techs will just try another start relay/overload as a test if they suspect the old one is bad.
