Honeywell White Round Thermostat - 4degF Heating Offset:
UNIT DESCRIPT: White Round 'Classic' Honeywell, heat only, NO perimeter switches for A/C mode, Fan on/off, etc.
Pointers for (top)set point, (bottom)actual temperature.
NO model# or other such descriptors on the exterior.
POSITION: Wall-mounted approx. 5ft 9in. above floor. By eyeballing Honeywell brand logo, the unit appears to be level.
APPLICATION: Heat only, multi-unit residential. Oil-fired hot water boiler.
ISSUE: As suggested in post title, this thermostat heats to, and cuts heat off at, approx 4 degrees F. below what it is set to(set-point). IE 68, it heats to 64. 70: 66. This means that we must set the thermostat to 72F or higher to maintain winter comfort in an older building with drop ceilings and no insulation between them and the roof deck.
SOLUTION: I attempted to gain access to thermostat innards, to determine if there is anticipator adjustment inside. However, after inserting several flat edges into the gaps at the edge of the unit, cannot remove the cover.
I'm afraid to use more force in case I break something or physically pull the unit off the wall. Then I wold have some explaining to do with my landlord!
QUESTION: Shall I just leave well enough alone, since this thermostat controls heat to multiple apartments, or, am I clearly missing something so obvious as to how to get inside the thing and and check for internal settings?
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: I am well versed with the innards of mostly older thermostats - mercury bulb heat anticipator combos - and with newer digital/programmables that simply allow the selection of a number in the digital settings to set the firing rate to match the fuel source(steam, hot water, forced air).
