Grundfos MQ3-45 A-O-A-BVBP all-in-one booster pump activates alarm

An alarm is activated on the pump, pressure drops in the system, there is no flow, the pump does not start. After turning it off and then turning it on, the pump works. What could be the cause?

Based on the information provided, the cause of the alarm, pressure drop, no flow, and failure of the pump to start could be due to any number of issues, including:

  • Insufficient water supply: If there is not enough water in the system, the pump may not be able to start, causing the alarm to activate, pressure to drop, and no flow to occur. This could also trigger a safety feature that prevents the pump from starting until the water level is restored.
  • Clogged suction pipe: If the suction pipe is clogged, the pump may not be able to draw in enough water to start, which could cause the alarm to activate, pressure to drop, and no flow to occur. Turning off the pump and turning it back on could allow the pump to draw in water from a different area of the system, which may explain why it starts working again.
  • Faulty pump motor: If the pump motor is faulty or has seized up, the pump may not be able to start, which could cause the alarm to activate, pressure to drop, and no flow to occur. Turning off the pump and turning it back on may temporarily relieve the issue, but the problem will likely continue to occur until the motor is repaired or replaced.
  • Electrical issues: If there are electrical issues with the pump or the power supply, the pump may not be able to start, causing the alarm to activate, pressure to drop, and no flow to occur. Turning off the pump and turning it back on could reset the electrical components, allowing the pump to start again.

Without further information or inspection, it's difficult to determine the exact cause of the issue. However, the above possibilities could be the reason for the alarm, pressure drop, no flow, and failure of the pump to start. It may be necessary to consult a pump technician to diagnose the issue and recommend a suitable solution.
