Hmm, It depends on what type.
Follow the instructions that came with the humidifier??
There are many different kinds and therefore many different answers.
Procedure is the same on all. RTFM
Disassemble. Clean unit. Replace media. Reassemble. Test.
By calling in your local HVAC contractor and having them clean it when they do your heating service.
