Fuel cost calculator

Talking to a friend yesterday she told me the price of fuel oil today is $5.69/gallon. Makes you wonder about alternatives.

In the past, electric resistance heating was always the most expensive but at that oil price and reasonable electric prices, they are very close.

If you want to do some comparisons, this is a simple to use calculator.

Not very useful at all. eg. my electric bill has more delivery cost and taxes than energy cost. My propane price is up & down like a yoyo over ~ 2 years. If I were building a home today I would try to have a variety of energy options available. John T.

Most electric bills are like that. Take the total and divide my the kWh and it will be pretty consistent month to month. I track my utilities and it varies less than a penny. About 10 cents.

Hi Ed,

Fascinating!

I especially liked the electrical resistances vs heat pump vs natural gas

Great post!
