FIXED -- THANKS -- Was: Drill leaks electricity to case

Thakns to all. I fixed it. I took the cover off and blew outaccumulated carbon crud. It made a little cloud, I tried not tobreathe and walked out of the garage for a little while to let itsettle.After that, the drill runs (as it did before), but it no longer tripsthe same GFCI breaker. I tried starting and stopping it many times,shook it while running etc, but the breaker would not break. I madesome pictures, but I doubt anyone would be interested -- just brushestouching the rotor. I want to say big thanks to all people who gave me good suggestions!It was the easiest fix of my life. I also tested hot to ground with a multimeter, no obvious leaks (I didnot use a megger, but I used the 1M setting of the multimeter). For the record, I used rubber boots and gloves while I was trying thedrill.Indeed, there is a big threaded hole on top of the drill, forinserting a big handle. Maybe it is even meant to be held by 2people with a big handle. i

I think the one on mine (that I made a new handle for in machine shop) is the right diameter for 1/2" pipe thread, but the threads are too fine to be pipe thread.

But I didn't think to check before I made the handle (aluminum round bar stock, lathe-cut threads).

Oh - a little hole then.

I just took a close look at my old 1/2 inch metal drill. It has a 3/4" pipe handle on top and it is a Black & Decker "Home Utility".

Looking on the web I find that B&D first introduced the Home Utility line in 1946.
