Drip drip drip noise from toilet

My toilet is making this drip drip drip drip noise.

I cannot figure out where it is coming from. It does not appear to come from the tank or the bowl.

Initially I thought may be the tank water is leaking into the bowl slowly, which causes the bowl water to spill over into the neck of the trap. So I clean both sides of the rubber valve (the thing that is pulled up and then comes down to cover the center hole that leads into the bowl) but that did not help.

I can try replacing the valve, but it may not be the valve. The brass screws that connects the tank to the bowl are a little corroded, but I don't think that is the cause. The floor is dry all around so it is not dripping to the floor. The other possibility is the flushing assembly inside the tank may have a problem and need replacement. But this is a Kohler unit and the assembly is located against one corner and may not be replaceable by generic parts.

Any idea how I may definitively locate the source of the leak?

Thanks in advance,

MC

It's probably the flapper valve at the bottom of the tank. One easy way to test that is to reach into the tank and press on the flapper to make sure it's firmly seated. If the dripping noise stops, that's where the problem is.
