Counter tops and sink scratches

What do you all recommend for removing mostly minor scratches and dullness from Formica counter tops and a ceramic coated cast iron, colored kitchen sink?

Auto rubbing compound and electric auto buffer. It won't take out deep scratches. Always use a cutting board when using a knife.
