Got a ceiling fan about 10 feet up with about another 2 feet in above it taking up the pole that attaches to the ceiling. Anyway the fan only turns at a real slow speed instead of the multispeed and when it turns it makes a strange whine sound. You can pull the chain and a few positions the fan does nothing so it's definitely made to go multiple speeds. Anyway it is worth trying to repair or just replace?

Pitch it. Nothing much is worth repairing anymore. The cost of new is so low on any type of home electronics, it doesn't make sense for anybody to try and operate a business that fixes it.
I repair ceiling fans all the time and it's normally just the switch. Easy fix!!
