Aurora 6500 diesel generator

It is interisting that it runs at 3600 rpm instead of 1800. Most of the time the diesels run at lower rpm than gas. For the non-inverter types it would be 1800 rpm.

Yep - I was hoping to see 1800 rpm when I looked up the specs. I worry that it might be like the cheapo inverter units - noisy. My Honda 5000 is more than 20 years old - still works fine - but I'm looking for a replacement before I desperately need one John T.

All brand name versions I looked at are also 3600 rpm. (Yanmar, Kohler, ...)

A lookup indicates the 186F is a Chinese knockoff Yanmar; one bloke on a small diesel engines group had had to rebuild his after <300 hr because, it turned out, had been assembled w/o the oil seals which carbon-ed up the head. After a complete teardown and rebuild it apparently runs much better now! :)

I'd guess like most of the no-name, it's a crap-shoot as to what you get for any given unit.

Air cooled single cyl diesel is a LOTlouder than the equivalent gasoline unit - both the exhaust and the mechanical racket. My kid brother bought one to mount on his highway tractor to run instead of idling the tractor overnight to run the stuff in the sleeper - he returned it immediately after he started it up. Open stacks on the 450 HP cat would have been less objectionable

The higher end gas or diesel run 1800 (my old Onan did) making them quieter but a LOT heavier. The cheaper chinese diesels like this one are virtually all 3600 - they use the same "head" as the gas gensets.

They rattle and clatter because the crankcase isn't heavy enough to damp outthe vibration - and the exhaust pulses are also very loud. It would take a lot of insulation in the case to make them reasonably quiet with a burried muffler.

I guess that by 'head' you mean the genertor part. That I can see. No use to make two different items for the consmuer. I do know that the simple genertors have to run at a multiiple or submultiple of 3600 rpm in most cases due to the generator part.

I am also thinking that the gas engines produce the most horse power close to 3600 rpm and the diesels are best at 1800 when they have to run at eirther of those 2 speeds.
