A leaf blower would do as good a job for less money...

The air compressor will do many more chores and is worth the cost. Yes, pressurized air does clean dust out of vehicles very well. Of course if you dont want to spend the cash, you most likely got a vacuum cleaner..... esp. a shop vac.

i'm looking for some high pressure... i have an 18 Briggs engine in it along with other machinery... i need to clear out the dust / dirt ... so, can anyone suggest what size compressor i'd need?

Yes, definitely a die grinder, and they take up quite a bit of volume.
