6 gauge and that's pushing it. At full load, you'd have a 10 volt drop.

That's for Cu; for Al it would be closer to 12V which is what most places would offer for USE triplex. I just tried to get #6 triplex Cu at the local supplier (there's only one in small market town) and they didn't even stock it.

Of course, pulling the full 50A is probably quite unlikely, but depending on what are the loads, max of 3% is pretty-much recommended for stuff with motors; efficiency suffers pretty heavily beyond that and if there's anything with harder starting, may be iffy...

Holy-moly - will he ever get near full load ? I'd never have guessed that an RV needed a 50 amp service -

- during power outages I'll run my whole house on my 5000 watt portable generator - the 230 volt receptacle on the generator is labeled 18.8 amps. John T.

He said plug for RV, so I was assuming it's a plug and cord.

I just tried to get #6 triplex Cu

Agree. He should analyze the actual loads.

You might be surprised . Those bigger units can have washer and dryer hookups , 220V AC , etc . Our 25 footer is all 110 and has a dual power refrigerator (gas or electric) and water heater . Space heaters if you choose those over the gas furnace draw around 15 amps too . My camper calls for a 30 amp breaker .
