How do I reattach cable that engages blade to handle bar on Honda self propelled lawn mower

I have a short spring with a a straight length (maybe 4 inches) with a u shaped hook at end- will not reach bar- did a piece come off?

Yep, the very end that had a chunk of lead on it flew off after it broke. You'll need a new cable from a Small Engine or Power Equipment repair store.
