Problem removing Grohe bathroom faucet handles (2023 Update)

I have a Grohe (I think) two-handle bathroom faucet that needs new cartridges. The handles appear to have typical caps one would pry off to access the screw underneath. However, try as I might, I cannot get even a knife blade under either cap. They seem to be either not caps at all, or really, really tight. There is no allen key or other way to loosen the handle. Am I being a moron and not seeing another way to do this, or am I just dealing with really tight caps? Thanks!
