Return Air Confusion

Hi everyone.Despite reading a couple hours of posts I am still confused.We have had 3 different HVAC service crews out here, each with adifferent answer.The Question: Is our Return Air sized correctly?We run a 12Seer, 4 ton AC/Heat Pump.We have ONE 20X20 Filter which fits directly to the bottom of theunit.We have one vent opening feeding the unit which measures 13X 29 (377sqin)We were led to believe that you need roughly 800sq in return airopening to feed 4 tons, so we were told to add another return airopening of about 450 sq in. Which we can easilly do BUT. How on earthwould this change the air getting through the 20X20 filter?My thinking is to configure EACH of the return air openings with it'sown filter and remove the 20X20.Am I wrong here? None of the HVAC guys would comment.Any help much appreciated,G

No problem.... take it to a half dozen mechanics on Saturday, and see if you can get them to diagnose the problem

I would, but it doesn't run and I have no way to haul it. It would be WAY to expensive to have it towed all over... as they won't tow it more than once for free.

The funny thing is... the auto mechanics won't bring their test equipment to my home to diagnose the problem. Hummmmmm...

How can they get by with this? It's ridiculous... there should be a code about this!
