Building a new home in a medium/moderate climate and wondering if the extra cost of enveloping ducting in a furred down space is worth the extra cost over insulated ducting in my attic? Any help/thoughts on this is appreciated. ALSO.. What is the most effecient type of HVAC unit for good heating and cooling? PAUL

Quite frankly Cowboy- you will save a bundle on energy by using the highest R- in insulation you can, deeply burying the ducts in the insulation, and enjoy the benefits of energy credits during the design phase. Use a TXV and ask for Title 24 duct inspection as well.[You can exchange energy use credits for more glass area or higher performance like sky lights, lighting and such.]
Check with your architect and Title 24 Energy pro.
