My new truck is about 6 inches too long to fit in the current garage. Would like to move the current door out about a foot. Do not intent to mess with the current opening width.

Go ahead. Just box-out the opening by going a little higher for a roof pitch and re-install the door. The rails and any opener just get moved out with the door. Nothing complicated about it actually. A little roofing or flashing for the top and a little paint or flashing for the sides.
I’m doing it to my garage kicking it out 20 inches and putting carriage doors on it to dresser it up
