We had a massive temperture drop last night and when I tried to use the gas fireplace this morning, the whole house started smelling like sulfur almost immediatly. I had to throw open all the doors and windows to air things out, wich was fun in ten-degree weather. The property manager sent a guy over to do a full inspection with those handheld sniffers and he checked the fireplace and all the lines but found nothing. He thinks it was just a cold air plug in the flue causing a backdraft. The thing is, I still keep catching whiffs of it hours later and it’s making me super anxious. I want to trust the tech since he was pretty thorough, but I'm wondering if it’s normal for that mercaptan scent to just get trapped in the house for a while. Is there anything else I shold check or am I just being paranoid at this point? The smell is definatly strongest right by the utility closet door. I’m just worried the sensor might have missed a tiny leak that only happens when the pressure changes. Has anyone else dealt with these "phantom" smells after a backdraft?
