I am planning to remove my existing patio ( flagged ) and replace with new flags. T what extent will i have to prepare the ground?
Will i have to dig down and replace everything with mot 1 hardcore or should i just lay a fresh sharp sand and cement mix ?

I can't see any point in digging up and replacing perfectly sound substructure. Having said that, I assume it IS perfectly sound? I mean, it not subsiding and letting the flags crack, is it?
If not, then leave it and lay the new flags instead of the old ones.
