It is easy to check light bulbs if these are good or bad/fused. Is there anything to check the tube lights other than their fittings? I have electrical tester it does not say how to check the lighting TUBES. Any advice appreciated.

Test in a known working fitting.
Filament lamps can be tested with a standard multi-meter.
Fluoresent tubes - you can check the filaments at each end in the same way as for a filament lamp, although even if they are OK, that doesn't mean the tube is working in other respects.
