painting cleaning?

Sep 15, 2003 2 Replies

Hi group, what can I use to clean a old oil painting I have on the wall, without damaging it?

Fresh slices of a soft, doughy kind of white bread, with the crust removed. Scrub the painting gently with the bread. Change slices as it gets dirty or starts to fall apart. Use a very soft paintbrush to remove any snagged crumbs.

That tip originally came from a museum curator.

if it has any value then see a specialist
