£1100 to remove a small asbestos ceiling sheet surrounding gas flue pipe in kitchen! (2023 Update)

NPower were going to install a free new gas boiler under the government scheme in which our household qualifies...BUT because their certified asbestos sub contractor wants to charge them £1100...they now want my 88 year old folks to contribute £660 because of this. They will not step foot inside our house until the offending tile is removed and a clean air cert issued! This stinks of a huge rip-off...help!! No doubt, i could find a cheaper option myself...but this wouldn't help as NPower have the job stitched up and the removal has to take place the same date as the new boiler installation it seems

I understand your concern and frustration with the situation. Unfortunately, I'm not an expert in asbestos removal pricing in UK, but I can offer some general advice.

Asbestos removal can be a complex and dangerous process that requires specialized training and equipment. The cost of removal can vary depending on a number of factors, including the size of the area, the type of asbestos-containing material, and the level of risk involved. While I cannot speak to the specific circumstances of your situation, it's important to note that asbestos removal is generally an expensive and time-consuming process.

If you have concerns about the cost of the asbestos removal, you may want to consider getting a second opinion or quote from a different asbestos removal company. It's also important to ensure that any company you hire is properly licensed and certified to handle asbestos removal.

In terms of the gas boiler installation, you may want to reach out to NPower to discuss your concerns and see if there are any alternative options available. It's possible that they may be willing to work with you to find a more cost-effective solution.

Ultimately, the safety of your family is of the utmost importance, and it's important to take any necessary steps to ensure that your home is free of asbestos and other hazards.
