How can I remove one vinyl siding plank without damaging it?

I'm actually planning to pull some cable to the outside and then back inside so need to lift one plank to pass the cable through. Good idea, BTW? Can the plank be detached from the ones next to it? They look pretty tightly snapped togehter ...

Yes, it is possible. There is a tool called "zipper siding tool" or simply "siding removal tool" (picture attached) . It's a flat metal hook business end of which is shaped like the vinyl siding's lock (inverted U). You slide it in-between the two planks you're disconnecting and pull/turn to make the lock disengage in one spot. Then just slide the tool along the plank's edge to disengage all of it.

As I was typing it, I realized how hard it was to explain what you'd realize in an instant. It's a pretty straight-forward tool . Almost nothing to it, just needs a couple of tries to get the movements right.

I'm just trying to post a test comment is it working?

A zipper sliding tool is usually your best bet. If you don't feel like buying one, then calling a professional is the best way to go. Good luck with your siding project!

We need to repair some of the vinyl siding on our house. We're getting ready to sell the house, and we want to increase the value as much as we can before putting it onto the market. We're in the middle of remodeling our kitchen, so we might end up hiring someone to fix the siding for us.

The sliding on my house is peeling off. It is a really old house so I'm not sure if they have that type of siding anymore. I want to get it replaced with all new siding, or if they have the old stuff that's fine to. <a href='
