Tucson source for metal duct for DC?

Ping Mark (or anyone else around here):

I'm setting up a 2HP Oneida DC, and need some extra ducts. The original plans called for two 90 degree turns right before the cyclone, but I think I'd rather do two 45 degrees to get the duct up to the ceiling. Is there anyone you'd recommend in Tucson who could sell me a couple of (possibly adjustable) 45-degree, 7" metal ducts?

Thanks,

Andy Barss

Interesting. You can really tell the generation gap. Me, I'd call someone in the area, ask them, probably get, "Huh? I dunno.", then I'd stop a the local Ace Hardware to see what they have. If they don't have it, I'd ask if they knew where I could get it. Then, depending on the day, and my mood, might visit one of the local Lowes to see what they have. But then my next step would be to get out the locan phone book, and start calling heating and air companies in my area. If I wasn't invoved in something else might well just make my own. If I was really desperate I'd ask my older son to make some for me, he works for a heating and air company and they can pretty much make anything they need along those needs.

I got mine from Metal Manufacturing Company:

From 411.com: Metal Manufacturing Company 4795 S Julian Ave Tucson, AZ 85714 Map o (520) 748-9485 It was 2003 when I bought from them. They don't carry anything in stock, but manufacture when you place the order. They may be somewhat pricey for just a few pieces; I know that was the case when I had to have a smaller order filled to accommodate some last-minute changes and to provide for a couple of pieces I missed.

Good luck.

Ain't the interweb wonderful?

Me, I'd call : someone in the area, ask them, probably get, "Huh? I dunno.", then I'd : stop a the local Ace Hardware to see what they have.

I'm looking for 22 gauge 7" diameter round duct that's adjustable, so I didn't think an Ace or Lowe's would carry it. 'Sides, I knew Mark got some from a local HVAC company and was satisfied with the result.

If they don't have : it, I'd ask if they knew where I could get it. Then, depending on the : day, and my mood, might visit one of the local Lowes to see what they : have. Mine is five, so I think his ductswork might leave something to be desired!

That would depend on the individual interpretation of "wonderful".

Ah, so you think your method (lots of phone calls, and trips to stores where people might have no idea what you're talking about -- as per your description) is better than asking a quick question here, and getting a couple of fast and accurate responses?

Andy,

Did you get the information I posted? Not being snippy, just double-checking my news service.

Why not? The Ace is in town, and I go to town every day anyway. Lowes is usually worth a trip. And no telling what I can learn by a few telephone calls. A couple of years back I was looking for some 1" square tubing, sh hit the yellow pages. First place didn't sell any, but gave me a number of a place that would. after about 3 total calls, I had found a couple of places that sold it, one of which would cut to desired lengths, and found a place where I can get used subing, of varying enghts, and a very low price. Well worth the time spent I'd say. Be polite, ask questions, and it can be absolutely amazing the information people will volunteer. I'd never have gotten any of that information if I'd just gotten where to buy from one person. Networking. It's always good for the soul to find out stuff like that on your own. Besides, talking to the people like that I can compare prices.

Yes I did -- and thanks for the info. I'll give them a call.

Now that I think about it, the original ducting plan I have might need more revision than I'd originally thought, so I'm doubly glad to have a local source recommended.
