Just one in the shop (at least four or five around the how and in the car). Any more than one and there will always be disagreements among them. I use the Stanley which matches my steel ruler the best for shop work but never for precise marking.

I have one more than I had Friday. One I lent to my eldest daughter came back home.

"precise marking" with a "tape measure" is a bit of an oxymoron at the best of times.

Reminds me of the contest at the Liars Club. Each member got up and told an elaborate story. Some were truly believable. Last guy got up and said, "I have an adult child and a flashlight and they both work".

Thankfully both of my girls work. Both have pretty responsible positions - doing well for themselves

All 4 kids work. 2 of them are doing it in the spare time they have while pursuing a Masters Degree. 1 of those will be graduating with a dual Masters in May. She's worked within her chosen career field since her first semester at her undergrad school.

I'm a proud poppa.

Yeah, but what about the flashlights?

They all have flashlights. They are on their own for batteries. At some point they need to take some responsibility for their own lives. I can't carry them forever.

Safe to say they are not quite as bright as the kids - - -

Bright kids with 2 masters degrees hopefully more usefull than the free flashlight.

Time will tell...time will tell.

Your reading comprehension is poor, it seems, or you don't understand the difference between precision and repeatability.

I don't know about yours but my kid was NOT free. ;-)

Leon had the counter to that. Of course the counter-counter is a story stick. Don't care what the scale says. ;)

If the object is to cut board X to fit space Y or make board A the same as board B, then they're the same thing. Precision is rarely needed in woodworking. Repeatability is almost always needed.
