Sub C NiMh cells - reliable source?

I've re-celled a few DeWalt 18v in the last year and without exception they have not performed. This is probably due to me being a cheapskate and getting Chinese cells of eBay.

Anyone know of a good source of Sub C cells in the 2200mAh - 4000mAh capacity range? RS do them but at a heck of a price (cheapskate again!)

I've previously bought GP 9000mAh D-cells from

when they were 8.50 for 2, and they worked OK. But their website navigation is a bit awkward and I can't find any sub-Cs.

Thanks - have you personal experience with them or was that a search result?

ISTR that there are *big* trade discounts at RS if you can get them

I had a battery re-celled by these people:-

15.6v NICD 1.5Ah @ £26.00 (£31.20 inc VAT) 15.6v NICD 2.0Ah @ £32.00 (£38.40 inc VAT)

The bigger Ah means an increase the capacity of the cells in these, giving you a longer runtime from each charge.

Return UK shipping is included

- Prices are for *each* battery pack. - Quotes are valid for 30 days. - Each battery is fully tested before return. - 12 month warranty is included. - Turnaround is typically within 14 days.

Very pleased with it - seems to produce as much torque as the original and lasts at least as long.

Only time will tell how long lived it is - it was only done about 6 months ago.

The cost is so similar to buying decent cells on their own in small quantities it's not worth DIYing it.

I get an educational discount, which makes the stuff merely expensive rather than extortionate. But you have to factor in the reliable next- day free delivery.

As far as I can see there aren't any under the rechargeable heading. I suppose they'd have to be tagged for this purpose. I have soldered to the top of an AA cell (used a dud one) but could be expensive/nasty if it goes wrong.

BTW, the Makita charger for combis will charge NiCd or NiMH so I suppose in most cases, with a decent charger, the replacement battery could be upgraded.
