Solvent

I am trying to remove form-back carpet that's fixed to vinyl tiles with an unknown but probably carpet adhesive. Any suggestions of a solvent apart from elbow grease? Regards David West

the foam itself. It aught to be laid on paper -even newspaper would have sufficed.

What a nasty floor covering that sort of carpeting was. Do they still make it?

acetone is wildly aggressive and also makes you very light headed..its worth a try, as is petrol, white spirit and cellulose thinners of varying types.

There seem to be no hard and fast rules..different polymers dissolve in different solvents,.

If you don't care about scratching the tiles, use a flat edged shovel as a scraper to get it off. That's what a carpet fitter suggested to me, and it worked well.
