That's a different application than this one. But it's strange how putty was ok for hundreds of years but suddenly isn't. ;-)

It was never ok but it was all we had. Chalk and linseed oil was a recipe for disaster unless you could stop the oil drying, an impossible task in exposed locations.
Sounds like the OP's need is indoors...
Even less chance of it not drying out then
waste of time discussing it with someone that doesnt even understand flexibility.
