self adhesive vinyl tiles over ceramic tiles?

not my preferred solution but .......

is it a goer? any gotchas? thinking abt uneven ceramics and grout lines "showing" through vinyl..? anything else?

The lines will probably be OK, but if you are worried, why not just float over some more grout to get a level joint.

mmm would "thin bits" of new grout "stick" well enough to old? thinking how clean the old grout would have to be got first? anything else - car body filler?

But new "proper" grout (mixed from a powder) seems very stable.

You could always prime the old joints with a drop of SBR or possibly PVA first.

Do people still use vinyl tiles? Hmm, well, good luck. All the corners started to come up after about five years, but maybe the glue is better nowadays. Brian

The slightest bit of grit (say 1.5mm diameter) will telegraph through vinyl tiles so the grout lines definitely will.
