Not sure why this message is now being posted to uk.d-i-y but I forgive him as they are damned good, especially for people who routinely do their weekly family Tesco shop online.

There are three vouchers providing 1000 club points for a spend of 75 GBP; 1000 points = only 10 GBP if you take them as cashback, but if you convert them to other transferable stuff like money-off vouchers, or Airmiles, then they are worth 4 times that.

As an aside, why have people taken to typing GBP when they mean ?? Surely one keystroke is easier than 3? - not just you or this froup in general but everyone seems to be doing it recently

Usenet does not guarantee that topset characters (such as the pound sign) will look the same on every reader's software. It's an impossible requirement and so, in order to avoid gobbledegook or misleading information, those who know what they are doing use the international abbreviation for the pound as used by the money market. And that is GBP. NB *not* ukp which is not a standard abbreviation.

The message from "Phil L" contains these words:

Not all systems reliably display a £ sign. Particularly outside the UK where character sets may not include the symbol. Work-arounds like this are inherant in a 7-bit (sometimes sort of 8-bit, occasionally 16-bit but rarely) system.
