OT: Electric kettle

My present kettle works but the vapour shoots out about 20 deg. from vertical and the kettle drips when pouring; it's a £10 job from Tescrot :-)

I'd like to keep it as a spare and get one that sends the vapour vertically up (there's limited space and I try to keep the vapour away from sockets etc.) and doesn't dribble. Prefer not to go over about £20 if possible.

This seems as if it could be an expensive exercise to buy then try. Seen a coupel that have a bit of a curve to the outlet but nothing with a 'drip strip' and it's difficult to tell where the vapour will go. It needs to be the jug type (although I like the 'traditional' sort) due to space and 3kW.

Any suggestions based on experience, please? I've looked in a couple of shops and on the web, but pictures usually aren't much help.

Argos, cordless value special ~=A34.50

Seems to work ok, but if you open the lid to fill it, you might get=20 the odd drip coming off the underside of of the lid towards the=20 handle.

Thanks. Worth a look if the spout doesn't drip and the vapour goes straight up, but it's not 3kW (most of the cheaper ones aren't).

booklet' wtf! Also allows you to program the water temperature - great idea for a kettle chaps. Finally, made in China. Says it all really; designer label, made in china for a few quid, sell in UK for =A3183.

Apparently you can boil as little as one cup of water!

But you can't tell how much water is in it until you turn it on...

Actually, I might find a recipe book for cooking water of some help. Water alone isn't too bad but lumps in it...

Well, well over GBP 20 (GBP 60- 70 !!), but I'll mention it anyway FWIW.

We bought a Magimix kettle earlier this year after a bit of (umming and ahhing) , to replace the latest in the line of plastic kettles which have failed (last two had those plastic windows in which many have nowadays, one the window just deteriorated and I put my finger through it, the other it cracked along the join).

Yup, expensive, but steam goes straight up and it doesn't drip :-) Twin wall stainless steel, lid opens nicely so easy to fill, and does at least feel like it might have some life in it. I am pleased with it.

Though IIRC ours was nearer the 60 mark.

But I love Spouse's copper kettle which used to sit on the gas hob and now sits on the wood burning stove even more. When it fails I'll look on Amazon,

That does look good but, as you say, a tad over 20 quid! Looks as if the handle isn't big enough for my hand, though.
