non-RCD wiring route

Just to check. I have found a route to my fridge socket that means it is never shallow buried. I wasn't going to make a fuss about it and just use an RCBO, but the route is actually simple so why not ? I can then stick a double socket on and possibly use 2 fridges or freezers and not risk losing the food in both as I could with an RCBO. The route will be: surface wired from CU though understairs cupboard, straight into kitchen ceiling, through ceiling joists always at least

50mm from the edge (some old holes being used !), down centre of stud wall (4x2s plus plasterboard), surface wired behind a base unit, then into the socket. The only query I have is, as it plunges into the wall to get into the sunken back box, do I have to fix an earthed 3mm steel plate over it for protection ? Cheers, Simon.

A 3mm steel plate would not need earthing. The cable will however need protection (mechanical or otherwise) wherever it is less than 50mm below the surface

OK, so I'll fix a steel plate over the area where the wire sinks in from surface mounted. Probably only an inch or two just to allow for a sensible bend radius to get the cable into the back box. No problem. Cheers, Simon
