New socket near consumer unit

I need to fit a new socket quite near to the consumer unit. I have no spare ways in the consumer unit, so I want to incorporate the new socket on the existing ring feeding the area. Is it acceptable practice to connect either the "feed" or "return" cable to a new cable to the new socket using a 30A choc connector within the consumer unit, and then use a new return cable from the new socket to complete the ring back to the fuse? I think this will be OK as there is access to the joint, and I don't really want to invest in a crimp tool if I don't have to.

Thanks

John

You could take it as a spur fed direct from the MCB (or fuse) of an existing ring or radial circuit.

There is no need to extend the ring circuit.

You just need a spur using 2.5T&E from the 32A MCB that powers your sockets. I cannot see any reason where extending the ring circuit inside your CU would be beneficial to supply one socket close to the CU.

Thanks for that - Brain fade didn't consider the CU fuse as point to spur from. This makes it a lot easier and neater.

Terminals should have room.

On the subject of misreading things - IU was trying to work out who Brian Fade was ;-)

Yup, a spur from the circuit origin would be my solution as well.
