GU10 Halogen replacement with LED.

I have 4 Halogen light fittings in my bathroom. They have 50W GU10 bulbs. Can I just swap them over to LED bulbs with a GU10 connection? The reason I ask is that the LED bulbs are too expensive to try and see what happens.

Yes, in theory, you can. I've just done the same thing myself. What you need to aware of, though, is that the overlength of the LED lamp (60mm cf

50mm) and the depth of the lamp head (25mm cf 20mm) will almost certainly be longer than a standard halogen bulb. (The dimensions relate to a 4W LED.) This means that not all LED lamps will retrofit an existing fitting.

For instance, I found the TLC LTGU3W lamp to fit easily

LEDs don't like high temperstures. If your fittings are enclosed the LEDs are likely to have a very short life. (Some of the less expensive chinese ones don;t last long even in a well ventilated place.)

What sort of temperatures are you talking about and what size enclosure will generate those temperatures?
