fixings recommendation for hollow door/robe hooks?

Hi All Are there any fixings you would recommend for use on hollow internal doors to screw down the 'robe hook' type of affair? I've never found one that I regard as satisfactory - they all seem to require far too big a hole, or too thick a covering material (eg. designed for plasterboard), or are too weak (in my experience these hooks are asked to carry a lot more than the nominal Dressing Gown).

Thanks Jon N

Best I've seen for this would be:

, but still not ideal, the hook will stand proud of the door by the thickness of the metal tang, say 0.7mm.

I took the easy way out and got one of those rows of hooks that hangs over the top of the door.

Hi Fred

Thanks for this - I see the 'minimum thickness' panel thickness for these seems to be 6mm, which would probably be OK. The ones I saw were quoted as being for plasterboard and the 'barrel' was probably 10mm or so.

I can live with the thickness of the tang - could make a spacer with suitable cutouts or similar.

Cheers Jon

Hi Owain

I was looking out for those as well but didn't spot any. Can you suggest a supplier?

Thanks Jon

Would a self adhesive one not suit ?

SWMBO got so fed up waiting for me to fit some hooks on the back of our bedroom door that she bought a couple of self-adhesive jobs from Tesco or somewhere and plonked them on. Yeah right, says muggins, they'll *really* work.

Three or four years later they still haven't fallen off. Go figure!

Argos. They're introducing a new catalogue about now, but page 217 in the Spring/Summer one, or

and the following item numbers

868/0264 "Daidy" 5 hooks. 6.99 868/0257 Extendible 6 hooks. 6.99 868/0956 individual, 3 hooks. 6.99 868/1043 chrome ball over door, 12 ball knobs. (less likely to make holes in towelling if dressing-gowns do not have hanging loops) 7.99 868/0989 sea life frieze 5 hooks 7.99 868/0628 wave design 6 hooks. 9.99

all are for 4cm door thickness. I think I've typed them correctly.
