fitting floor

We have just had a bamboo floor fitted to 2 rooms. one room had floorboards, the other room had a cement floor and there is a connecting walkway between them. The fitters (who were recommended by a friend ) first laid 18mm ply over the whole area (not fastened down) then brad nailed the bamboo to it. the bamboo wasn't glued and there is no membrane or anything between the bamboo and the ply. The fitters, who do this for a living, said it was by far the best way to lay solid wood flooring (it was also the most expensive ;-( ) . However it flexes quite a lot when walked on. It also creaks like hell! Have I been conned by the fitters? And is there anything I can do to stop the damn creaking?
