I'm looking to fit some internal fire doors around my house and have been reading up on the specs involved. I've found plenty of detail about the doors themselves, fitting intumescent strips and the hinges, but can anyone tell me whether there are any specs on the door handles themselves? I haven't managed to track down any recommendations.
Off the top of my head (I used to deal with these many years ago) there's no specific regulations for door handles on fire doors (it makes sense that they should be easy to open in 'panic' conditions and are not of combustible materials) but I would suggest that you find something that has at least an half-hour fire rating - have a chat to an ironmongers or builders merchants who would be able to obtain specialist catalogues.
As you have found plenty of info, could I ask did that include the fact that fire doors must be self-closing - usually by fitting a door spring (

- and that the door frame be fitted with 'extra thick' doorstops (around 25mm square) and screwed on and any glass in the frame or door (along with thicker beads) to be of the Georgian wire reinforced type?
Locations (in a house) would normally be the bedrooms, kitchen, at the top and bottoms of stairs (if possible and practical) and if they form part of the 'escape' lane, the various living areas.
