I have read somewhere that these LED replacements won't work off the same transformer as the CFLs. Anyone know if this is correct?

CFLs don't work off transformers, so yup, almost certainly true.... ;-)

(if you mean LV halogens, then many of the electronic transformers (i.e. SMPS) have a minimum load to work correctly, and a LED is unlikely to reach it)
