bedroom wardrobe recesses

from an old deep cupboard accessed via the inner hallway i have created a wardrobe for the bedroom, by having the door opening filled in, and a new opening in the bedroom with bi fold doors each side. i am now thinking how to finish it off. its all plastered and painted inside and i am going to put down laminate in there.

to the left is a recess 30 cm deep and to the right 40cm. the depth to the back wall is 90cm.

i was thinking of putting a pole up on the right side with a shelf above, and fitting shelves all the way up the left hand side for folded clothes.

any ideas on this and what sort of spaces to leave between shelves, whether to start them half way up or from the bottom?

Rail for full length clothes / coats

Two half-height rails for shirts and trousers.

Slidey basket system works well for the rest, and is more flexible. Ikea probably do one ...

Depends on the use really. Is it just you or is there a female partner? Blokes stuff works on two rails, shirts, trousers etc. If female storage is needed you might need one rail for long dresses etc.

Use twin slot uprights & brackets, then you can move them. Well worth leaving an 18" gap at the bottom for boxes & stuff.

Dave Thats interesting I was just thinking of wood batens around the back and sides but like your idea of moveable shelves. could you post me a link to the rails you suggested and do they come with specific shelves? Thanks Ben

slot ones are useless, go for the twin.

If you need a few SF are cheaper

but you have to buy packs.

You can buy ready made shelves, but its cheaper to buy furniture board

thanks very much Dave, this seems like a much better idea than what originally came to mind. Moveable shelves is a great idea and they look very sturdy.
