Bathroom mould in a 1905 terraced house

Yes I know - airborne moisture plus cold surfaces equals mould. Answer, heat the room but provide plenty of ventilation. My question is, what is the best treatment for the walls in order to minimise mould formation? Get rid of wallpaper, then stain-blocker plus bathroom-rated emulsion?

if not a great answer

no wall treatment will prevent mould. Wall treatments dont stop condensation. Mould inhibiting paint can delay its return, and by a fair bit, but that alone is unlikely to eliminate it altogether.

I dont think theres anything special about 'bathroom' stuff, other than price. Silk is more cleanable than matt, and you can add mould retardants yourself.

Insulation too.

IMHE, polystyrene veneer "wallpaper" _does_ help condensation, as it raises the surface temperature above the due point.

The real fix in this day & age though is to bite the bullet, rip the plaster down and put up 40mm of Celotex and dry-line (YMMV, mine is

1880s).

Laundry Bleach kills mold use a spray bottle, cold has nothing to do with mold other then things are not drying, which is what you need.

There are apparently specialist paints (presumably incorporating a mouldicide) that one can use. The advice to reduce the dew point is correct Chris

and much more preferable than surrounding yourself with chemicals so nasty that even mould won't grow.

Actually, the most effective thing is to use about 3mm of insulation..you used to be able to get rolls of polystrene foam at 3mm, or cork tiles.

Paper over that lot and paint..

So easily damaged though. Closed cell foam might be better
