Apex Hole in the wall gas fire

About 4 years ago we bought a Apex Liberty 6 hole in the wall gas fire. from an on-line retailer that has ceased trading.

The fire has a remote control. Attempting to start the fire gives a

series of sparks (the battery is good) but no gas seems present. We asked British Gas who will not touch it as it does not have a Gas Council number. The BG fitter did say though that it looked a standard device internally.

A large local company will not touch it without a manufacturer's part number.

The manufacturer is un-reachable.

Any ideas would be welcome.

Thanks

Is the whole operation "hands-free"? If so, it sounds like the solenoid in the gas valve may be knackered. Alternatively, I guess it might be possible for the valve to have just stuck closed (although I'm sure those better informed than I will advise you).

If you have a multimeter you could check to see if the coil in the valve has gone open-circuit. Some pictures of the "guts" could be helpful to identify components.

Look online for someone who specialises in this sort of fire?

Back in the day we bought a house with a venerable Baxi back boiler behind a gas fire. To get it back fully working we found someone who specialised in these boiler/fires - much more likely to be able to fix that a big firm or a general gas fitter.
