Any sugestion for a new combi ??

The old combi is a Potterton 80 driving 8 rads with thermo valves in a

3 B/R semi. It's 10 years old and could do with replacing. Would any of the "Guro's" care to suggest a good reliable replacement with good control features. I'll be moving it from a first floor cuboard down to the ground floor kitchen. I don't wish to spend extra money for something that is cute but not reliable. Thanks for your help.

Jim,

18 months ago we had a Glow-worm 30cxi installed, it's one of the condensing types, it seems to use less gas and the hot water is instant instead of having to wait for the it to warm up like with the old combi.

I've got 10 rads with 9 of having individual thermostats on, the 10th rad is the "flow through" as recommended by the installer.

The system works for us: we have had one service with no problems in the general running of it.

worcester bosch, prolly a junior to a 24 i would be good, do not even contemplate a BIASI, my experience with them has been bad, Worcester, alpha or baxi(potterton) in my opinion

What hot water flow rate do you want? What can your cold main supply at best?

Baxi? Potterton? The new Baxi 133 HE plus is good I believe. A reliable combi? Eco-Hometec or Viessmann. Not cheap but good.

Website's a bit crap but don't let that put you off - they make excellent boilers with

3-year warranty.

Yeah. Throw it in the skip and buy a boiler system that actually works to deliver more than a thin trickle of hot water at the expense of shutting down the heating while you do it ;-)

Thanks John-- The cold water rate and pressure is good- they have just re-piped all of Berwick upon Tweed and it's all working good at full flow. I have an electric shower so the flow rate would only be to support a tub bath when my ancient old bones need it. . The pipe run for either need is less than 10 feet all in the same area. I suppose my primary concern is reliability and supportability. When I change I intend to move the unit from a needed closet upstairs down to an accessable outer wall in the kitchen. Good controls are also important and unlike the Potty it doesn't need a fan that runs continiously. Thanks for your help John.

Just noticed this line in your last posting so, to go with my earlier suggestion of an Alpha boiler, also have a look at the Alpha 7-day Wireless EasyStat.
