Aldi Auger Bits revisited.

Bought a set of these last Thursday, they look quite good.

Tried one today - the shank is too large to fit the chuck on my drill driver - Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!

Did you also buy the drill driver from Aldi or were you expecting it to be compatible?

Nope. The drill driver is a Wickes/Kress jobby with a Jacobs chuck. They may fit my mains Hi Torque or my SDS - haven't tried yet.

I see, so is that the only drill you have then?

I have three drills.

Well they should fit at least one? I try them out sooner rather than later, as the last lot I bought from aldi wasn't worth a blow on a ragmans trumpet. Metal turned blue and that was just plain pine wood I tried.

Bloody part timers. 5 mains, 6 cordless and three 'dremel' types.

They probably worked out if they made em with a 16mm shank, they would probably never get used, and folks would not be so quick working out they are made of plastercine!

I manage with one. It's the mains SDS. The other mains ones are all B&D. Including the very first one I bought in the '60s. Which is a bit like the proverbial broom - only the case is original.

I'd only reiterate the HS twist drill set I bought from Lidl recently is as good quality as any I have. And most of that sort of thing they sell has the same brand name. I suppose that doesn't mean it's all to the same quality, though.

I don't run a hire shop, I do DIY myself.

Yup, quality of cheap bits does vary hugely. I have a set that cost pennies years ago, that still works very well. (I have also had some that untwist with the first use!)
