SALT WATER FAMILY POOL QUESTION

Is the salt supplied by pool suppliers the same salt as used in water softeners? I presume they are both sodium chloride. The former is significantly more expensive. Thank you, Seamus J. Wilson

You can use water softener salt as long as it is pure (99.5%) and contains no additives like YPS (yellow prussiate of soda). Pool store salt *may* contain cyanuric acid (aka stabilizer), and this is something you can add separately.
