These kits are for over/under refrigerators in locations where the ambient temp can drop below 55 degrees, causing the refrig thermostat not to cycle and subsequently thawing the freezer portion. Kit consists of a small electric heater blanket to be wired in parallel with the thermostat. It lowers the "inoperative" temp from 55 degrees to 34 degrees.
Now the question: The heater goes in the small compartment with the defrost timer and the thermostat, but it goes under the defrost timer which is several inches from the thermostat. So I'm a little confused. How will heating the defrost timer affect the on/off of the thermostat? And since it parallels the thermostat wires, how can it heat when the thermostat is off due to a cold room?
